Intro
MIF is a multi-media festival of performances,
exhibitions, happenings, music, sound and visual installations, video and
cinema, urban interventions,
animation, workshops, solidarity and engagement with the aim of supporting
the infiltration of cultural, artistic and socially engaged activities in the
urban life and creating the ground for meetings of young artists and activists.
Its aims are both artistic performances
and exchanges. Exchange means to create, to provide, to support, to discover
and to promote the common aims and convictions. Consequently the festival is from and to everyone; all
the people who will decide to give time, tools, work and part of their lives to
the idea of the MIF.
We don’t provide the performance space to artists
only, but to engaged art also.
MIF presents alternative ways of art and expression
and gives an opportunity to local young artists and activists to express their
ideas and a different vision of the world....
In the past six years, more than 600 artists, from ten
European countries, took part in this festival.
Mostar Intercultural Festival 2003
7th edition of MIF will present the need for creative space in Mostar (see
after MIF 2003 concept for further information).
The festival will have its central location in Santiceva street (former division line), and a task
to use the creative potential to intervene in and transform the destroyed and
neglected part of town turning
it into a creative and artistic laboratory. Locating
the festival in this place symbolically represents the civic and cultural
reconstruction of the city.
Application Criteria
We invite artists and activists to apply with their ideas and projects in
accordance with the theme «space» (lack of space / need for space).
Exhibitions and happenings sector has the wish to
gather artists from different fields to exchange skills and experiences, in order to create a common space. We
invite you on a residence, to intervene actively and collectively in our two “zones”:
No-weapon zone: We
are looking for artists and activists who want to state a strong sign of
non-violence and anti-militarism, to find creative solutions for peaceful
communication and exchange.
Sexual identity/ies- zone: We are particularly looking for artists working in
the field of gender issues. Our goal is to question role models based on
biological genders, to cross borders which are not given by nature but made by
us and to stress the fact that we are first of all human beings and not only
“men” or “women”.
Apart from this also exhibitions and happenings, such
as pictures, installations, site-specific projects, multimedia performances, …
working on different topics related to the aims of the Mostar Intercultural
Festival are welcome!
